A perspective on gratitude.

As I reflect on the year behind us, I think of the blessings I’ve received and all of the people who’ve supported me. I find myself thinking about gratitude in a deeper, broader way than I ever have before.
With the launch of my debut novel, Racing Hearts this year, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to meet authors, editors, and readers, both in person and online. Those connections have expanded my understanding of what it truly means to be thankful.

Gratitude isn’t always about exchange or expectation; sometimes it’s simply about presence and acknowledgment.

In the chaos of the world we’re living in, I’m especially grateful for my wife—my rock when the river runs high, as it so often does. My family, in their own quiet and unexpected ways, have surprised and shown up for me. And my friends, who have reminded me how rewarding it is to create work that resonates with people I respect.
One of the most powerful experiences this year was attending Pride in Palm Springs. I had never been before, but the city’s reputation for supporting the LGBTQ+ community is well earned. Standing in my friend’s tie-dye booth, holding my novel like a newborn, I was overwhelmed by the support and appreciation shown for my work. Women, and men, gay, straight, young, old—stepped into my world with enthusiasm and encouragement I didn’t even know I needed. That experience filled me with gratitude for a community that continues to show up with love. It reminded me that we are stronger together no matter our story.
This season of gratitude also brings reflection. My dad’s been gone for six years, yet the stories and experiences he shared with me gave me the foundation to write Racing Hearts. He rarely met a stranger and had a deep love for racing—especially trips to the Indianapolis 500. As children he’d take us every Memorial Day weekend and it became an annual celebrated event for our family. The stories of the trips are legendary in our home and community, even to this day. I think of him often, and I’m proud to share a small part of our history with my readers.
This year has given me a renewed perspective on gratitude—not just for achievements, but for the people who make the journey possible. To everyone who has supported me, believed in me, or simply taken the time to read my work: thank you!

Here’s to reflection, gratitude, and striving to be our best selves. I look forward to a creative and joy-filled 2026.
Happy New Year!
